Be Snobby About What You Eat

Intuitive eating is so much more than eating whatever your body craves without healing your relationship with food. The first thing you need to do is really define your nutrition strategy, and with this, figure out where you are on your health journey.

In fact, I’d really encourage you to do the mindset work before embarking on any kind of health journey. When you do this, you can start to unpack your relationship with food, what you want to achieve from your journey and the best methods that work for you and your unique body.

Once you’ve figured that piece out, you get to be snobby with your extras. I like to break foods down into always, sometimes, and rarely foods - it’s those “rarely” foods that I like to think of as extras. Nothing is off-limits in your eating plan, but I want you to think whether what you’re about to consume is really worth the space in your day.

Apply Your Snobbiness to the Rest of Your Life

Choosing to be snobby with your extras takes a bit of self-control. It’s so easy to allow yourself to eat whatever you want to do, but I want you to really enjoy what you’re eating. If you’re not enjoying it, it doesn’t taste good or make you feel happy, why are you eating it?

When you do this, I know you’ll feel empowered. You’ll feel strong and capable and able to choose food that makes your body and mind feel good.

When you’ve got your snobbiness down regarding your food, I encourage you to apply your new boundaries to the rest of your life. You’ll find it so much easier to set and stick to your new boundaries when you’re already practicing them with your eating habits.

Quotes

“Intuitive eating is a strategy to heal your relationship with your body. To heal the relationship with food. There can be a secondary effect of body fat loss through intuitive eating but we have to unmarry ourselves from the result of body fat loss if we want to really utilize what intuitive eating was meant to do.” [5:01]

“Food does affect us. We have to be really keyed into what foods work for us and what foods don’t work as well for us.” [12:13]

“When you get snobby with your extras, you’re really showing up for yourself. What you’re doing is saying that there are no bad foods, all foods are allowed, but you get to decide what gets to go into that fine masterpiece of a body.” [14:34]

“If we can be mindful eaters and really decide if something is worth it or not, be prepared, you are going to turn down a lot of things.” [17:50]
